Jaap Van der Sar studied water purification at the Agricultural University Wageningen, Netherlands. He has worked in the field of church and society for both the National Council of Churches as well as for regional and national church bodies. He noted that many processes in society hamper due to a lack of qualified communication. This was most of the time expressed when differences in view occurred (nuclear weapons, apartheid and how to fight it, climate change, unemployment, but also the selling of a church building through a parish). He dedicated quite some efforts to develop methods through which at least the communication between opposing groups could be improved. Through contacts within the ecumenical network, he connected to Colin Craig. After several years, the DPC method was developed and practiced in many countries in the world. He is one of the trainers in DPC as well as a coach.
